Hiking in Giles County, Virginia

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Not far from our inn near Blacksburg Virginia are the Cascade Falls. A short (roughly two mile) hike leads you to one of the most breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls in the state. Many streams converge to majestically storm over a steep cliff – some drop down in stages, while others take the 69-foot drop in one great leap. At the foot of the falls is a large, clear pool; cliffs soar two hundred feet above. Visitors are awed by the power of the falls and the serenity of the scene below.

The four-mile round trip trail to the Cascade Falls is much loved. Four lovely bridges, along with  stone and wooded staircases, create several spectacular vantage points from which to view the falls. Don’t forget to bring your camera.

When you return to our lodging on the New River, a comfy adirondack chair or hammock awaits you. Sit back and relax, absorbing the large views of the New River and surrounding countryside. Enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine as you reflect on the day’s adventure and the peaceful evening ahead.
